Christmas Questionnaire linky

I found this cute little linky and couldn't resist.
1. When do you decorate?
I don't have a set time. My goal is to decorate during Thanksgiving break, but it doesn't always happen like that. It is on my agenda for today actually. I have to be honest though, it might not get done until Monday or Tuesday. I'm trying to lose my bah-humbug attitude and get into the spirit of things. I have a friend that helps me put up my outside lights and they went up last weekend. I love to see them sparkle and twinkle, making my home look cozy and lovely from the street.

2. Elf or No Elf?
No elf. I have not gotten into all the elf hype. I don't see myself doing this at home at any time, but once I get back into a primary classroom I think I would love to get an Elf on the Shelf.

3. Christmas Cookies or No Baking for You?
I love to make Christmas goodies. The baking for sugar cookies signifies the official arrival of the Christmas season at our house. This year we will try a gluten free recipe I found on Pinterest since my Punky is gluten free this year.
These are my signature cookies, but we did try a roll and cutout recipe last year too.
Here is the recipe we are going to try this year.
4. Favorite Holiday Tradition?
Oh my.... I have a few! I think my favorite is making goodies with my girls! My youngest is the master of making peppermint bark and talks about it as a tradition.  It strikes me as I listen to her that sometimes I don't realize when something becomes a tradition! One thing we have been working on is more and more "homemade" things, and probably the most fun Christmas for me was the year we made calendars for the family and stamped red and green Christmas stamps on brown packaging paper to make our own wrapping paper. I am a big believer that the Salvation Army saves lives and my girls are trained to put a dollar in the bucket every chance they get. I almost forgot to add that we read the Christmas story out of Luke 2 every year before we exchange gifts.

5. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Elf. I am one of those crazy people who knows what cheesy thing is coming up next and sometimes (often) I start laughing before it happens. When I am having a bad day, I put in Elf and laugh and laugh and my kids think I'm nuts. I have a plethora of Christmas movies I dig out and watch at Christmas. We watch Serendipity, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (we now own both versions, but the old animate version is my favorite), A Charlie Brown Christmas and It's Christmas Time Again Charlie Brown.

6. Snow or No Snow?
Snow! Um... I love it when it snows at Christmas. I love December snow. January through March.... not so much. But I also don't like frigid temperatures and blizzards, so I like snow if all the conditions are right. My favorite Christmas snow was the year we spent Christmas in Flagstaff, Arizona and we had beautiful Christmas snow in the morning and warm temperatures in the afternoon.

7. Favorite Christmas Song?
Oh! So many! Favorite Church song? O Holy Night. Favorite "secular" song? Elvis's Blue Christmas. Most meaningful to me? Toby Mac's This Christmas. As a single mom, I don't have orphaned children, but I still pray often that Jesus will be the father to the fatherless in regard to my children, and most especially to my Punkin.
Oh, and I love Faith Hill's Where Are You Christmas? It sums up how I tend to get lost from my beliefs of goodness and light at Christmas and get caught up in the pressure to do more and be better and inevitably something happens to bring my attitude back around to an attitude of gratitude and Christmas gets back on track.

8. Favorite Gifts to Give and Get?
I love to give my kids new pj's. It is sort of a tradition. Is there such a thing as a "sort of" tradition? I love to get stuff, and some of my friends and family give bigger than I can reciprocate, but I love to get new pj's and new coffee mugs too. At our larger family get togethers we are working on eliminating gift giving this year. I will still get something for my niece and nephew but as adults, we suggested that Mom and Dad give the money they would spend on us to someone in need or to a charity. So this will be different and will take the pressure off of my Mom to purchase gifts. I never know what my "favorite" gift will be to give or to get. Last year I got a Keurig and I love, love, love it. I read the article about it, and I try not to think about what condition the "guts" of it might be in  and just enjoy it. I really love it. And Pez. I don't know why I love to give Pez in stockings, but I do. Pez and Pez dispensers are almost always part of our stocking stuffers.

  1. Elf really is the funniest Christmas movie!! Even though I have seen it a million times, I still laugh hysterically every single time!
